DREAM TOGETHER
Tbilisi Architecture Biennial 2022

Team: Jan Bauer, Bene Wahlbrink, Eugenio Cappuccio

Online Platform: Christian Glasmeyer

Translator: Tekle Esakia

Location: Tbilisi, Georgia

Type: Research / Exhibition

Year: 2022

When considering structural urban changes and developments, the focus has been increasingly on the application of new digital technologies. Advances in the field of artificial intelligence provide architects and urban planners with powerful tools to process large amounts of complicated information. New possibilities arise, especially in the field of collaboration during the coordination of complex planning processes.

For the Architecture Biennial in Tbilisi 2022, these tools will be used to involve as many people as possible in the process of co-design. The project "Dream Together" conceives a digital and physical space in which the wishes, thoughts and reflections of both inhabitants and visitors can be collected, exchanged and discussed, to involve them in the process of urban development.

During the exhibition, visitors and residents can visit the Kartli Sanatorium, explore it and express their varying thoughts and desires in the form of sentences or keywords on an online platform, to imagine possible futures for the site. These thoughts are subsequently fed into the neural networks VQGAN (Vector Quantized Generative Adversarial Network) and CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pre-Training), which process images (in this case "dream worlds") based on a series of text prompts related to the given location in Tbilisi. The result is a video installation, which will continuously change from the first input on the digital platform.
